What is Generals.io?
Generals.io is a grid-based strategy game where numbered armies move between neighboring tiles. Territory supports growth, cities provide valuable positions, and the decisive target is the opposing general rather than simply the largest patch of land.
Fog makes information a resource
You can only act confidently on what you have seen. Mountains and concealed positions complicate paths, and sending your strongest army away can expose your general. Different queues and custom maps alter conditions, but defending that key tile remains central to ordinary matches.
How to play Generals.io
- Choose a basic queue and locate your general and the nearby open tiles.
- Select your army with the mouse and use adjacent tiles or directional keys to expand into neutral land.
- Scout routes and build enough strength before committing troops to a defended city or enemy position.
- When you discover the opposing general, compare the attack path with the time needed to defend your own.

The shortest threat may beat the biggest army
Picture your large force exploring a distant corner while a smaller enemy force reaches your general. Troops only defend a position if they can arrive in time.
