What is Gota.io?
Gota.io is a browser cell arena centered on collecting mass, splitting and absorbing smaller cells. Server modes can change the feel of a match, so check the selected mode before relying on a familiar split or merge rhythm.
Your pieces must survive separately
Splitting sends cells toward your pointer but divides the mass you can use in each collision. Ejecting mass can feed another cell and costs your own size. A fast split sequence may catch a target or leave several vulnerable pieces in front of a bigger player.
How to play Gota.io
- Pick a server and mode, enter a nickname, and start near scattered pellets.
- Move the pointer to guide your cells toward safe food and away from larger opponents.
- Press Space for a deliberate split toward a target smaller than your attacking piece.
- Regroup after the attack, and test that mode’s merging behavior before attempting repeated splits.

Reach is not the same as strength
Picture a large cell launching a smaller half across a gap: the leap closes distance, but only the launched piece’s mass decides what it can absorb.
Tips for your next round
- Learn one server mode before switching to faster split variants.
- Keep all of your pieces in view; a successful lead cell does not protect the ones behind it.
